Zebra-fish are some of the most studied live organisms. Researchers, particularly in the field of developmental biology, have used these small fishes to address many important questions regarding how the body is formed. In order to do so, many mutant and genetically modified zebra-fish have been created and studied. Some of them with different pigmentation patterns. However, in spite of some fish with longitudinal stripes and even a line with spotted patterning (named leopard) none of the fish have acquired the vertical stripes characteristic of zebras.
This project aims to explore current developmental biology methods in order to create zebra-fish that truly resemble the zebra patterns. It will be a project concerning the modification of life with an art objective, creating a live artwork.
